Deforestation is the deliberate clearing of forests. Every year about ten million hectares of forests are cleared. This deforestation is equilivant to the size of a country like Hungary. The countries with the most deforestation are:
Brazil, Indonesia, DR Congo, Angola, Tasmania, Myanmar, Paraguay, Bolivia, Mozambique, Nigeria. Desertification and deforestation are closely linked. Desertification is land degradation due to climate, drought and human activity. Desertification takes place in several countries in the Middle East and Africa. Desertification comes from the word ‘desert’ and is the process of fertile land becoming deserts.
