The Relative Pronouns in Arabic

The Relative Pronouns in Arabic are several. They are used to join two parts of a sentence.

The relative pronoun also helps to draw attention to a particular point about the speech or sentence, even clarify.

The above words are known as relative pronouns in English and Arabic (أسماء موصولة). These relative pronouns are classified as nouns in Arabic. A relative pronoun is a word which shows a relation, or connection, between two parts of a sentence.

  • If the thing being referred to is a person you would use the translation ‘who or whom’.
  • If the thing being refered to is non-human then you would use the translation ‘which or that’.
  • Other translations for this word include the word ‘that’.
  • Other words that are treated as relative pronouns include ما and مَن.
  • The feminine plural, mentioned in the above image, also has another version of the plural word which is الَّائِي. The plural version used in the image is more commonly used.
